Pop Punk

Not sure how many of you dudes and dudettes are in to pop punk, but this is a forum for any music off the topic of TKB..so I thought I should bring it up!

It's 4am now so does that make it last night or tonight? Well, either way I saw The Wonder Years at Kingston Peel tonight/last night. Didn't bother with Kerrang! Tour as Good Charlotte's latest release was disappointing (Like It's Her Birthday..really?), Framing Hanley are crap (my opinion..) and I saw FYS at Ballroom, only band I wanted to see was TWY.

Personally, for me, The Wonder Years and Four Year Strong are two of the best pop-punk bands out there right now. Both amazing bands and the headline shows prove that (support slots just aren't enough for these two). I know I can use the old cliche "They should be bigger!" and I do question that. Why aren't bands like FYS and TWY bigger than say..All Time Low? Is it all to do with looks? I mean, compare the fanbase. Maybe it's just me, but TWY and FYS are a lot better and head above the rest than other pop-punk bands.

Pop-punk has completely turned into something where I feel as embarrassed to say I listen to it as I would to be seen drinking a WKD at a house party. You're right, mostly it's all about the looks now. I grew up on bands like Sum 41, Green Day and Blink but now they're labelling All Time Low and You Me At Six in the same genre?! Not that I don't like these bands, I think they're alright, but there's nothing pop-PUNK about them. Just a few guys with pampered hair singing about chicks.

This is exactly how I feel, the genre is messed up now. The "original" pop punk is still one of my favourite genres though. New Found Glory, blink, Sum 41 are some of my favourite bands, just to name a few.

Agreed. Was gutted to see You Me At Six are supporting Blink, so was glad when Four Year Strong were announced. Quite a lot of that whole genre seems to be about looks rather than music. Not to say they're aren't still good pop-punk bands (The Wonder Years, Four Year Strong, even Set Your Goals).

But you look at the demographic for All Time Low (who are playing TWO Brixton shows) it is mostly girls. Not to say girls don't like the music, but if they were 'ugly' (I can't judge so if girls thought they were ugly), I can gurantee they wouldn't be as popular.

As for Blink, I'll always have undying love for them being a fan for 10 years or so now...but when you have 'fans' who get wet over hearing WMAG? etc. then it kind of makes me sad as Blink are so much more than that.

I think you may be generalising a bit there, when I saw both at R+L 2010 there was a good mixture of both sexes in the crowd having a good time, but I see your point. Personally I think YM@6 and All Time Low are good bands but I don't understand how they can be seen as Pop-Punk.

Man a day to remember alright sic in my opinion. I've always wondered what the definition of this genre is as I've never under stood that, neither pop or punk some help please guys.

Ahhh I grew up listening to this stuff!! Blink-182, Good Charlotte (ish. They can be there, at times haha) Zebrahead and I think THE KINGS of punk pop... SUM 41!!!! Still got 'em all on my iPod and love 'em (:

I've never classed Green Day as punk pop though. I just see them as punk

....This thread has now given my cravings for all the bands I listened to a 14/15 :')

Love pop-punk, easily my favourite genre of music (on level with punk-rock). Favouriter band are Blink-182 who are literally my life and been my favourite band since I was 8 However I do like more punky music like Rancid, Operation Ivy, bit of Minor Threat. But overall I'd say pop-punk is easily my favourite genre of music- proper pop-punk though like Blink, NFG, Yelowcard. Do like a bit of poppier pop-punk like ATL and stuff though but not loads.
