Yah, that is what I was referring to ;) However, in the interests of neutrality and appealing to people, I'm altering 'fraternity' to 'community' in the future.

I think the author was referencing the term "Liberte, egalite, fraternite" which has represented the struggle for freedom from oppression since the French Revolution.

Despite the never ending discussion about whether or not the three terms are compatible or mutually exclusive I think the phrase has come to mean more than the sum of its parts.

Good point, I hadn't considered that. Fraternity isn't necessarily exclusively male, but admittedly brotherhood tends to be. I was thinking it can be used as a neutral term, like 'he' can be used when in doubt about a person? Hmm...
